An existential midlife crisis involving scale of choice!

I'm a 1:18 scale (3.75-inch) collector. That's what I grew up with, and the scale I gravitated toward from the late 70s throughout the 80s and into the early 90s. Sure I had Masters of the Universe, Transformers, MASK, and a variety of miscellaneous scales, but my heart was always centered around Star Wars, GI Joe A Real American Hero, Remco monsters, Micronauts, Kenner Indiana Jones, The Black Hole, and any other 3.75-inch figures I could find. I loved the portable size, the compatibility, and of course the wide range of vehicles available for that scale. In the later 90s and early 2000s I gravitated into larger collector scales (Spawn, DC Direct, Classic Universal Monsters, Babylon 5, Playmates Star Trek, etc.), but sometime around 2010 I realized that for me the magic was really in 1:18 scale. So I systematically sold off everything that wasn't "my scale" and reinvested in what I truly loved. Today, I broke a 15-year rule. For the first time in a decade-and-a-half I bought something for myself that wasn't 1:18 scale. I bought a 1:12 scale GI Joe Classified figure. Ever since the Classifed Retro Series started trickling out I've been obsessed with wanting to set one up, check the articulation, kick the tires, etc. But I've resisted the temptation. Until now. I finally bought one at my local Target (Stalker). I honestly didn't think the magic would be there. After all, I grew up with the straight-arm 82s. I've built an entire wall on tradition. But I'm shocked and pleasantly surprised that there's magic here too. Not abomination! I feel like an 8-year-old discovering the first year of GI Joe ARAH for the first time. I've already ordered the Retro Series Rock 'N Roll and Cobra Trooper (they'll be here in the morning) and I'm pricing the VAMP and RAM online and need to track down Scarlett ASAP. For now I'm going to limit myself to recreating the 82 lineup and we'll see how hooked I am from there!
