As a collector, and as a person, I'm fascinated by details. The first time I went to Walt Disney World's Star Wars Galaxy's Edge land at Hollywood Studios three years ago I was overwhelmed. We were only spending a half-day at that particular park, and we had plans to ride Smuggler's Run and Star Tours (a long-time family favorite), visit the Droid Depot, and to just explore the area in general. But it was a lot. Last week we visited again. For some reason I was much calmer and more relaxed the second time around, and I was able to take in many more details than our first adventure there. I really sank into the background lore of Batuu's Black Spire Outpost. I paid much more attention to each and every droid I encountered, the timeframe this world exists within as part of the overall Star Wars saga, and the myriad periods of Star Wars history represented by all of the details and easter eggs located throughout the area. We ate lunch at Oga's Cantina (something we weren't able to do on our first trip and something I'll remember for a lifetime) and rode Smuggler's Run multiple times. I am so enamored by Galaxy's Edge at this point that I'm planning a whole bookcase in-line with the rest of my Star Wars collection to make Batuu a part of my official action figure canon. I have always steered away from Expanded Universe entries, favoring more the films and live-action TV series as my canon, but there was just something about BEING THERE that really made Batuu real to me, the same way Tatooine, Yavin IV, Hoth, Dagobah, and Endor are real to me as locations from the Original Trilogy. When you really dig into it, there's a lot I think I can do with it. I sprang for the latest-and-greatest StarSpeeder 1000 while I was there, and a new 3 3/4-inch droid from the Droid Factory, and I'm busy scouring eBay right now for all of the Star Tours figures I passed on over the years, going back to the POTF2 and POTJ lines, not to mention all of the park exclusives. I've always said that every collector has to collect on their own terms. It's exciting when my own terms change and I'm able to discover -- or rediscover -- something for the first time, or in an all-new way.
