The Power of Holiday Magic

We here at Ice Planet Collectibles hope all of our customers, followers, and friends had a happy holiday season. The holidays, and winter in general, are always a time of reflection and wonder for me, especially on cold, snowy days when the world seems to slow down for just a few ticks and things seem just a little less rushed. Some of my strongest toy memories are of Christmas, obviously since that's when I would have found some of my most coveted toys under the tree. I still remember vividly the year I got Visionaries for Christmas, and the year I got Masters of the Universe. And MASK. Or Transformers. And Star Wars was a recurring theme multiple years. Those Christmas mornings were usually a springboard for the rest of the year. I would get my first MASK toys for Christmas, then I would dutifully spend my allowance and imagination for the following months on additional figures, vehicles, and playsets to enhance the core selection I had unwrapped in December. I'm eternally grateful for those memories. I think we would all agree that Christmas is really about spiritual celebration, family, friends, and everyday warmth and miracles, or some combination of those things, and not solely about the gifts and material possessions we receive, but I've always been a collector. That's how I'm wired. I view the world through the worlds I build in my plastic, 1:18 scale medium. Especially being raised in the 70s and 80s as part of the core GenX demographic, those things shaped who I am today. The heroes. The adventures. The principles and moral lessons we learned. The difficult choices and moral dilemmas we saw play out on screen, in the pages of comics, or in the actions of our play time. I truly believe these things were a phenomenon that we have not seen again since that glorious time of yesteryear. But I am eternally grateful that I get to look at reminders of that golden era on my toy shelves every day. The Black Hole still spins. The TARDIS console still rises and falls. The Millennium Falcon still soars through hyperspace. Optimus Prime still battles Megatron for the sake of others knowing he'll likely lose. Luke Skywalker still insists there is good in his father, one of the greatest villains the universe has seen. The Joe team still battles Cobra while acknowledging that knowledge itself is half the battle.
