To Green or Not to Green

I don't do this very often, but I'm going to weigh in on a current internet debate. The trailer for HBO's Lanterns recently dropped, and there's a lot of discussion at the moment about the color of Hal Jordan's uniform... whether it looks more green or brown, whether or not the practical suit is better than the 2011 CGI suit, etc. The bottom line for me, and the more important question (I think) to ask is, am I excited about the show? The answer is a resounding, "yes." I'm tremendously excited. Green Lantern has been one of my all-time favorite DC super heroes, if not THE favorite DC super hero, since I was a kid. I had my dad's old comics, Kenner's Super Powers Green Lantern action figure, and anything else Green Lantern I could snag. I must have seen the 2011 movie in theaters (in standard and in 3D) half a dozen times trying to love it. I never got there. It never felt right (on top of the myriad other problems I think affected the film). But the Lanterns trailer felt right to me. I've never been a huge fan of seeing my heroes toward the end of their career (Logan, Dark Knight Rises, etc.), but in this case I think it might work. My personal prediction about the GL uniform is keyed in to John's comment (if he is in fact talking to Hal), that Hal is old and tired. I think his derelict looking uniform is a sign of that. I'm hoping that by the end of the series we see Hal come back to his prime and the suit energize back to a true Green Lantern green look-and-feel... fully charged and impressive. Shows like this have to build. The MCU movies were mostly good at starting with a "heroes in their prime" scene or two (Thor is a great example, as is Age of Ultron) before things back up and they have to regain speed. TV shows are a little different. I'm hoping that the show will be more character driven and will build to a point that I'm on my feet yelling "YES!" at the screen when the costume is seen in its full glory. An even better question might be, where are the 3 3/4-inch action figures from the new DCU?
