Packaging can be a complex topic, and one that has come up again recently for me in my personal collection. I love the retro, vintage-style packaging we've been seeing for years with toy lines such as Star Wars The Vintage Collection, GI Joe 25th Anniversary, Masters of the Universe Origins, ReAction figures from Super7, Hasbro's recent Indiana Jones offerings, and many others. I made a decision back in college not to keep packaging, especially from vehicles and playsets, because I simply didn't have enough room to store or display packaging and the collectibles themselves. When the vintage-style packaging started coming back out, I started saving all of it. Carded figures are easy to work into my displays but the boxes have piled up. I see online that other collectors break down their boxes and store them flat, but so far I haven't pulled the trigger on doing that yet. There's just something about having those boxes sitting there that harkens back to the good 'ole days of finding all of this stuff at retail and seeing it on the store shelves, especially as a kid. I think for the sake of space though I might have to start exploring alternative storage methods. Or a separate storage unit. I know this is mostly a rhetorical question for now until we turn this blog into a forum, but how much thought do you put into managing your packaging?
To keep the packaging, or not to keep the packaging
