Why should we support Kickstarters? The answer in my mind is simple... so that things get made that might not otherwise get made. And I'll be honest upfront, I don't know why the bigger toy companies make some of the choices that they do. I've spent a fair amount of time contributing to collector websites, participating in forums, attending conventions, digging through toy shows, leaving comments on Facebook, etc., and I hear the wonderful ideas that we as collectors and as purchasers of toy products come up with. And surely the bigger toy companies see those ideas. They're all over the web. But instead, many times, they choose to make things that no one asked for, no one wants, and they warm the pegs and downgrade eventually to clearance aisles and maybe even trash bins. Shoot, even some of the "fans choice," crowdfunded projects from the bigger companies have included some baffling choices over the years. But with Kickstarters there are so many that are driven by collectors, designed for collectors, and represent the things that we really, really want in our collections. The downside is that Kickstarters can come with a bit of risk. You can back a project that might not reach its goal. You might have to pay more for a figure, vehicle or playset than you might think it's "worth" based on a comparison with similar items at big box stores. And you might have to wait a long time for it to ultimately arrive (and with your pledge tied up for that amount of time). But is it worth it? Yes. I think it is. And I don't want to come right out and endorse a specific project, but I'll just say that if you're a fan of certain space transporter vehicles that reside on the Moon in the year 1999, you might want to check out what Zica Toys is up to at the moment and support it!
